Experience your own African safari with an Open Vehicle Adventure at Werribee Open Range Zoo. Werribee Open Range Zoo is set along a beautiful and picturesque stretch of the Werribee River and is home to magnificent grassland animals displayed in an open range naturalistic setting.
Custom-built Open vehicles accommodate a maximum of 12 people, who along with your guide will immerse you in the sights, smells and sounds of the savannah as you travel across Werribee’s open plains.
Imagine being surrounded by magnificent wildlife, including rhinos, giraffes, zebras and antelopes, or taking the perfect safari photo just 30 minutes from Melbourne’s city centre.

Session Length
Open Vehicle Adventure Tour – 1.5 hours. Visitors have access to Werribee Open Range Zoo from 9am – 5pm.
Guidelines:
Children must be at least 8 years old and must be accompanied by a paying adult.

I really enjoyed the positive cheerful attitude of all staff. They made us feel very special on arrival and every one we met from then on was helpful, knowledgeable and good natured. A great day out!

We had a great time, starting with an excellent "Good morning, we've been waiting for you". (we were 2 hours early). Werribee Zoo is a wonderful facility, with excellent staff that comminicate well with visitors and the gently confined animals. Visitors considering a motorised tour of the zoo should opt for the Open Vehicle Adventure - far fewer passengers,more versatilty of the truck for closer access to the animals. This was just amazing, loved every minute of it. Our guide Genevieve was fantastic. I even got to feed a giraffe out of my hand. Very worthwhile and everyone for do it if they get the chance. Can't wait to do it again

My wife and I had the truck to ourselves and were very well catered for by Genevieve, who gave a very good commentary. On the other hand, the open truck drive was spoilt a little by a number of heavy showers which blew into the truck - somewhat wet but the journey was worth it.,

Our driver/ guide on the open range tour was excellent. Her name was Brooke and she was so co-operative with us taking photographs throught the tour and nothing was a problem to her. Brooke was very pleasant and made you feel most welcome from the first moment she spoke to us and was very well informed about all aspects of questions that were put to her. Job well done!! My husband and I would have no hesitation in recommending the experience of Werribe Zoo to others.

Such an awesome day. Fresh air and such beautiful animals that are just so relaxed and happy too be there. So much land for them to be free in. Very knowledgeable keepers and staff.

The whole safari experience and getting up close to the animals was fantastic. We were fortunate to have a beautiful day, weatherwise and it wasn't hard to imagine we were on the plains somewhere in Africa.

The tour was pretty good, our driver, Doris was fantastic. Unfortunately there wasn't a lot to see in the rest of the zoo, it took about an hour to walk around and most the animals were hiding. We also attended a Serval presentation which was good. With the Open tour we drove up to within a couple of metres of the animals which was great.

I found the website confusing and booked the wrong experience, however was relieved when my contact via telephone proved to correct any misconceptions I had. The experience itself was great and our driver and guide, David was excellent.

Fantastic and informative day - the staff were amazing and the zoo is not like a zoo but an animal sanctuary. It's the closest I will ever get to a wild animal! Thank you!

I had a fabulous day out at Werribee Zoo with my gorgeous daughter who gave me this experience as a Birthday gift The experience was great and the guide we had a Werribee Zoo [Paul] was fabulous -very interesting and well informed -we were so close to the rhinos and giraffes -amazing!

The OVA was amazing. Did expect a few more animals though (no cheetahs or lions) but was absolutely great. The rest of the zoo was fairly boring. This experience definitely made the trip out very worthwhile

Our open vehicle adventure was great. The driver/guide went out of her way to make it special, getting us as close as possible to the animals. She demonstrated both a great knowledge of, and love for, the animals we saw. Highly recommended!

Needed to use the vehicle that seats face out rather than inwards. So you can see better without twisting

We really enjoyed our open vehicle adventure. The guide was very knowledgable. You could tell she had a great love for the animals really loved what she was doing. She went out of her way to take us close up to the animals and make it a special for all those on board.

The experience was interesting and informative. The guide/driver was friendly and encouraged our questions. Our party loved to see wild animals close up and also enjoyed the walk. I found that although it was interesting to hear various sounds on the walk there could have been fewer sounds - Overall we all thought it was terrific and we want to come again!

This was an amazing experience, was so lovely to be able to see such beautiful creatures up close. I took some amazing photos as well. I got this experience as a birthday present for my boyfriend for his 21st and he had an absolute ball. Thanks so much!

We are a family of 4 and all enjoyed the day. The driver was very informative and friendly and took us closer than expected to some of the animals, (giraffe, rhino, bison) and we had fine weather which obviously added to a good experience.
