Throughout the tour, keep your eyes open for a range of local wildlife, including kangaroos, emus, dolphins, turtles and sea birds. This guided tour will begin with a ride in an ex-army amphibious vehicle, across the beautiful Bustard Bay, the same location that Captain James Cook when he stepped ashore here more than two centuries ago. The amphibious vehicle travels around the bay, travelling over four tidal creeks, before stopping for a delicious morning tea of cakes, cookies and fresh fruit.

Next up, the amphibious vehicle will trek across Jenny Lind Creek, then begins a scenic 4WD journey up Bustard Headland to the Bustard Head Light-Station. This historic light-station was Queensland’s first coastal lighthouse and the only operating lighthouse accessible to the public. This lighthouse stands at 16 metres tall, giving you 360 degree views of the pristine coastline of Bustard Bay and beyond, whilst marvelling at the historical lighthouse’s craftsmanship. Your guide will regale tales of triumph and tragedy about the early settlers and light-keepers who tried to tame this remote wilderness! You will then enjoy an interpretative tour through the restored head light-keepers cottage and the little cemetery, where guests will soon learn why this majestic station was dubbed the 'Lighthouse of Tragedy'.

After the guided light station tour, you will enjoy a picnic lunch surrounded by coastal rainforest. Try a smorgasbord of cut sandwiches, cold drinks, billy tea & coffee. During the lunch break, you can explore the coastal rainforest walk to the foreshore, at Jenny Lind Estuary.

Before the day ends, enjoy the thrills of sand boarding down towering 35 metre sand dunes at Middle Island …..if you want to, you can skim out across the water or stop on the sand flat!
