HMS Lady Nelson, after arriving in New South Wales in 1800, was for the next 20 years one of the most important vessels in the colony for its contributions to the exploration of the coast and settlement. Duyfken - this Dutch East India Company ship was under the command of Willem Janszoon. While searching for trade opportunities, they made the first recorded European visit to the Australian continent landing on the Cape York Peninsula in April 1606
