Why You'll Love This

What's Included?

  • An all day defensive driving course (7 hours)

The aim of this first-level course is to provide post-licence driver training to raise awareness, skill levels and assess attitude and the potential dangers of the road. You'll mix theoretical and practical driving sessions conducted at normal road speeds in your own vehicle learning life-saving skills in a purpose-built training facility. A friendly theory session will explain what 'defensive' driving is all about, and identify the most important principles.

Following an explanation of the correct braking techniques you will be put to the test in various practical emergency braking situations on a variety of wet surfaces. After a lunch break (BYO), the afternoon session will cover vehicle dynamics and skid control. For the afternoon a combination of exercises will include vehicle balance and smoothness, and basic skid control. A final short lecture will recap the day, re-assess the driver’s attitude before certificates and course notes are handed out as recognition of having completed the day. Theoretical subjects covered will include:

  • Defensive driving - what it means and how it is achieved
  • Evaluation of the main part of the car - the driver!
  • Driver attitude
  • Practical road safety tips
  • Tyres and their importance in driving safety
  • Vision skills
  • Basic vehicle dynamics and skid control

Practical exercises will be conducted in:

  • Assessment of vehicle condition
  • Seating and steering
  • Emergency braking with and without ABS
  • Emergency lane changes
  • Reaction times and their effects on stopping distance
