Enjoy a scenic cruise to Broken Bay Pearl Farm where your guide will offer a narrative about the local geology and history that makes these the perfect breeding waters for pearls. This two hour tour will take you behind the scenes and includes a live pearl harvest, grading and valuing demonstration.

Did you know that the world's most lustrous and rare Akoya pearls are grown in the Central Coast, just one hour north of Sydney? For the first time in 15 years Broken Bay Pearl Farm opens its doors in this very special opportunity to experience an authentic, working pearl farm. The tour begins with a scenic river cruise around the estuaries of Brisbane Waters where you'll learn about pearl farming and the local geology. Explore the beautiful marine wilderness and encounter pelicans, fish and other local wildlife as you set off to discover the famous Rock Oyster farms. Afterwards, you will listen to a short theatre presentation that highlights the colourful history of pearling in Australia before learning the seven virtues of grading and valuing pearls. There will also be opportunity to purchase pearls directly from the farm if you wish.

Session Length

  • This experience is two hours in duration, departing every Thursday and Saturday at 10am and 1pm
  • The first hour is a catamaran cruise and second hour is spent in the grading room on land


  • All guests requested to arrive at least five minutes early
  • Footwear suitable for boats is essential
  • Tour is subject to change due to weather conditions


Once this experience has been confirmed, changes are at the discretion of the experience provider and arranged directly with them according to this policy:

  • The provider reserves the right to cancel or change tours without notice
  • Customers will receive a credit in the case of operator cancellation due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances
  • Customers will receive a credit with 24 hours or more notice of cancellation prior to the tour availability
  • No-shows will be charged the full price

Dress Code

A jacket to protect from potential sea spray and hats are advised. Footwear suitable for boats is essential.
