Everything you need to know about indoor skydiving

Insane. Crazy. Unbelievable. Surreal. It’s hard to choose just one word to describe the feeling of flying (yes, FLYING) up and down a giant glass wind tunnel. It was honestly one of the most amazing experiences I’ve ever done in my life. Find out more about this epic experience below. I suggest you add this to your bucket list - it's worth it.

Firstly, I should admit that I am quite afraid of heights, to put this in perspective I got scared on the Ferris Wheel at Luna Park… So, you can see why I was a little apprehensive at the thought of Indoor Skydiving. But I needn’t have worried. Yes, I screamed a lot (you can see my mouth opening and closing like a fish in the video. Watch it here.) but more from joy than terror, I swear.

So, what actually happens in an iFLY experience? You really do learn how to fly – with some (a lot) of help from some very experienced instructors. My instructor Tom had clocked up 50 hours of flying in the tunnel! Which meant I was in very safe hands.

The first time you enter the tunnel, it’s about finding your balance in the air. You need to keep your arms and legs nice and straight and your chin up so you’re not looking down (a very handy tip if like me you are a little afraid of heights.

Once you’ve got the hang of it, you can start to move around a little bit. Your instructors will guide you higher and lower. At one point, I was well above the instructor’s head – so quite far off the ground! Next, it was time for the “iFLY High” – this is where your instructor takes you all the way up to the top of the tunnel. It was SO MUCH FUN. And surprisingly nowhere near as scary as I thought.
