Get a taste for what sea kayaking is all about without having to travel out of town. See historical Williamstown, the mouth of The Yarra and even interesting wildlife. This kayak half day trip is suitable for beginners and offers a unique perspective of the beautiful city from the water.
Your tour options include paddling under the West Gate Bridge, paddling over the channel to Sandridge Beach or paddle along the protected waters of Williamstown foreshore. Why not try one of Williamstown's many restaurants after the tour and make a full day of it? Your kayak experience begins with a short discussion on the format for the half day including distance expected to paddle and weather conditions. You are then kitted up with a PFD, spray deck, paddle jacket, thermals and a paddle before the all important safety briefing including a dry capsize drill. Once you have done a few warm up stretches, you will be paired up into paddling partners. Most sea kayaks are double sea kayaks (Pittaraks) with a couple of single kayaks available for the more experienced paddlers in the group. After going though some basic strokes for 20 minutes (depending on the skill level of group), you'll set out on the adventure paddling as one group. Commentary on environmental features and local history is provided. Sights that may be seen along the way include dolphins, commorants, fish, boat wrecks, historical buildings, marinas and yachts. Snack and drinks included on the tour. When the group returns to the start, the gear is packed away and you can change into some warm clothes.
