In a kayak, face the great ocean from sea level. No machines or fossil fuels, only salt spray, rolling water, sea birds and companions. Smooth strokes propel the sleek craft as they slice through the swell. Dolphins and seals sometimes swim around unperturbed by our presence.
Woolamai Waters (Phillip Island) offers sheltered conditions for most of the year. On this kayak adventure, you will kayak past huge granite cliffs (reminiscent of Wilson's Promontory's landscape) and paddle into sea caves.
Both beginners and experienced paddlers will find this area a real adventure. The sea is abundant with marine life including seals, penguins and the occasional pod of dolphins and the lunch spot is a real 'corker'.
This trip is for people who want to get away from it all.
Your experience begins with a short discussion on the format for the day including lunch breaks, distance expected to kayak, and expected weather conditions.
You are then kitted up with a PFD, spray deck, paddle jacket, thermals and a paddle before the all important safety briefing including a dry capsize drill.
Once you have done a few warm up stretches, you will be paired up into paddling partners. Most sea kayaks are double sea kayaks (Pittaraks) with a couple of single kayaks available for the more experienced paddlers in the group.
After going though some basic strokes for 30 – 60 minutes (depending on the skill level of group). You'll set out on the kayak adventure, paddling as one group. Commentary on environmental features and local history is provided by your guide. Sights that may be seen along the way include dolphins, seals, sea eagles, commorants, fish, boat wrecks, historical buildings, marinas and yachts.
Lunch and drinks are provided for everyone about half way through the trip.
The group then returns to the start in their kayaks, the gear is packed away and you can change into some warm clothes.
