The Ghan's timetable makes the most of the daylight hours to offer unsurpassed views of the passing landscape. Depart the tropical top end of Darwin for Katherine, and travel overnight to the Red Centre. Awake to a new day with a fresh panorama of this changing landscape. Red earth and cobalt blue skies – the essence of Central Australia takes on a character of its own with every passing hour.

This experience voucher is valid for 12 months from date of purchase.

Venue:

The Ghan departs Darwin Station a 30 minute drive from the city centre and arrives into Alice Springs Train terminal.

Session Length

This experience runs for 2 days and 1 night, departing Darwin at 10am on Wednesdays all year round and Saturdays at 9am between April and October. The Ghan departs Alice Springs for Darwin on Mondays all year round and Thursdays between April and October at 6pm.

Guidelines:

Participants must be fit for travel, if you have a medical condition or injury travel insurance is advised. Gold Service Cabins have upper berths which require access via a ladder. Single cabins have shared facilities. Those with movement impairments are required to travel with a carer.

Numbers:

Independent touring, however many other guests will be onboard the service at the same time.

Spectators:

Not suitable for spectators, only the option to wave goodbye to the guests from the departing train platform.

Weather:

In the case of extreme weather floods which prevented the train travelling we would advise guests as soon as the information is advised, normally 24-48 hour prior, a choice of alternative arrangements are advised.

Other Info:

IMPORTANT: Please arrive at the station one hour prior to departure with your booking confirmation number. Guests are permitted 2 bags per person of no more than 20kg per bag. One cabin bag per person is required for overnight requirement.
