You don’t have to travel to Africa to hang with a hippo! Get up close and personal with a hippopotamus during a hippo close encounter tour at our zoo in Adelaide. Also included is day admission to the zoo so you can check out many other amazing animals from around the world!

Meerkats, otters and Malayan sun bears – you’ll see a global menagerie of animals during your visit to our zoo. With your zoo admission you can spend the day viewing animals (both from Australia and other continents), relaxing in picnic areas or pick up a bite to eat from our cafe.

The highlight of the day is the special Hippo Encounter behind-the-scenes tour! During this tour you’ll get to meet Susie and Brutus, our huge pair of Nile hippos. Help the keeper give the hippos their daily mouth check and then feed them a hippo snack! With a maximum of six people in the group this is a very special experience!

You’ll also get to meet out zebra family and see our beautiful bongo (a large forest-dwelling antelope) up close!

Guidelines:

The price quoted is for participants 15 years of age or older. Children under 16 years of age must be accompanied by a paying adult. Children’s prices are also available – please refer to product code SAZ421.

Numbers:

The price quoted is for one person aged 15 years or older. There will be a maximum of six participants in the hippo encounter tour.

Weather:

This experience is not affected by the weather.

Session Length:

This experience is available all year round on Fridays and Sundays only. The zoo is open for general admission from 9.30am – 5pm and the hippo encounter commences at 8.45am and goes for 60 minutes. Please meet at the Service Gate 15 minutes prior to your tour.

Extra Info:

Videos are prohibited however you are welcome to bring your stills camera. The price includes general admission to the zoo and a place in our special hippo encounter tour.
